Our products

All of our products are derived from the conversion of natural gas feedstock; and through our diversification into natural gas production, we have created a fully integrated value chain from exploration to end delivery of products to our customers. 

Proman entered the upstream sector in 2014 with our natural gas exploration and production joint venture in the Piceance Basin, USA and then furthered our involvement in 2015 through our partnership with DeNovo in Trinidad and Tobago.

In Trinidad and Tobago, DeNovo manages our natural gas production operations, capitalising on local talent and innovation in the upstream sector. DeNovo owns and operates our offshore platform off the west coast of Trinidad and the associated Gas Processing Unit, and is able to deliver feedstock directly to our downstream plants on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate.

In North America, Proman USA manages Proman’s natural gas operations, which includes its interest in natural gas production in the Piceance Basin, Colorado, as well as marketing and hedging operations.

Proman is the second largest methanol producer in the world, and we are actively committed to supporting the development of the global methanol economy. Currently around 50% of global methanol production goes towards the chemicals industry, as it is a vital component in the production of many everyday products, including automotive parts, paints and wood products and other building materials. Due to its ease of use, immediate reduction in air pollutants and highly-scalable net-zero pathway, methanol also has growing potential as a low-emission fuel. It has become one of the leading alternative fuels for the global maritime industry, and can also be used to power road vehicles and in power generation.     

Our investment in methanol began with the construction of the Caribbean Methanol Company on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad and Tobago, which began production in 1993.

Proman has continuously re-invested in its portfolio and we now have 8 methanol plants worldwide with a combined annual production capacity of 6.903 million metric tons.

Proman owns and operates one of the world’s largest standalone methanol plants, M5000, in Trinidad and Tobago, and jointly owns the largest methanol production facility in North America, the Natgasoline methanol plant in Beaumont, Texas.

In 2019, Proman entered into a joint venture with Stena Bulk to own and operate six state-of-the-art 49,900 dwt methanol dual-fuel MR tankers. When used as a shipping fuel, methanol virtually eliminates sulphur and particulate matter emissions and produces very low levels of nitrogen oxide, helping to create a more sustainable global shipping industry.

Proman is committed to implementing and developing more sustainable ways to produce methanol including the recycling of carbon dioxide, the use of green feedstocks and the evaluation of new and more efficient production technologies.

Proman is one of the top ten global nitrogen-fertilizer companies, producing nitrogen-based fertilizers which contribute to healthy plant growth and high crop yields and support the agricultural sector worldwide.

Ammonia is the most common source of nitrogen content in fertilizers, as well as being used for pollution control, such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides levels in motor vehicle exhausts, or in power or chemical plants. Ammonia is also used as a stabilizer and neutralizer and as a source of nitrogen in industries such as waste and wastewater management, paper production and pharmaceuticals. Carbon dioxide, which is a by-product of the ammonia production process, is used by Proman’s methanol production facilities, thereby reducing emissions and waste.

We also produce urea ammonium nitrate (UAN), a liquid nitrogen-based fertilizer. Liquid fertilizer solutions containing UAN are versatile as a source of plant nutrition, as they can be combined with other nutrients or chemicals, meaning the liquid fertilizer can be customized to meet the needs of any soil or crop.

Our fertilizers are produced at our plants across the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad and Tobago, principally at the AUM complex, which also manufactures melamine.

Melamine is a constant presence in our everyday lives. All sorts of household items, from kitchen surfaces and dinnerware to cooking utensils and flooring, owe their durability and heat-resistance to melamine’s binding properties.

Our subsidiary Eurotecnica has pioneered the world’s only melamine process with Total-Zero-Pollution. The Euromel® Melamine Process eliminates solid waste and liquid effluents, combining low energy consumption with low capital expenditure. The Euromel® Melamine Process is used in twenty-eight plants around the world, accounting for more than 1,130,000 metric tons of melamine produced per year.

Proman has two melamine production facilities on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad and Tobago. The melamine facilities form part of the larger AUM complex which also manufactures ammonia and UAN.
