Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL) owns five methanol plants with a total annual production capacity of 4.1 million metric tons and an AUM (ammonia, urea ammonium nitrate, melamine) complex which comprises 7 individual plants. The plants are operated by Industrial Plant Services Limited (IPSL) which also operates Proman's CNC and N2000 ammonia plants.
MHTL was formed in 1997 to consolidate four existing methanol production sites. In 2005, the newest methanol plant, M5000, was added to the portfolio and is considered to be the largest stand-alone methanol plant in the world, producing 5,400 metric tons per day. In 2009, MHTL extended its product range by commissioning the AUM complex becoming a multi-product energy company producing not only methanol but also urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) and melamine, with an installed production capacity of 4,300 and 180 metric tons per day, respectively.
As a leading player in the energy industry, MHTL continues to pursue avenues for growing production and exploring new uses and markets for its products.
