Proman Trinidad spotlights the power of work experience and mentorship on World Youth Skills Day
Point Lisas, Trinidad – To mark World Youth Skills Day, Proman Trinidad is highlighting the importance of providing training and mentorship opportunities to build the next generation of national talent. The company is currently hosting 40 Trinidad and Tobago nationals pursuing studies at local and international universities, as part of its 2025 Vacation Student Programme.
The ten-week programme, which runs until August 8, is designed to equip students with real-world experience, professional mentorship, and a deeper understanding of the energy and petrochemical industries. Through the programme, interns can gain experience in a range of departments, including Engineering, Technical Services, Information Technology, Laboratory Services, Finance, Legal Affairs, Human Resources, and Procurement.
The 2025 cohort represents a wide cross-section of academic institutions, including The University of the West Indies (UWI), the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), and the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT), alongside universities in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Now a longstanding part of Proman’s skills and youth development efforts, the Vacation Student Programme is one of four structured training initiatives delivered by the company. To date, these programmes have supported the development of nearly 700 young nationals, with more than half of those securing full-time roles within the Proman family of companies.
Anand Ragbir, Managing Director, Proman Trinidad said, “Work experience and mentorship are a powerful combination, providing guidance and opportunity to those just starting their careers. I’m proud that these programmes are helping prepare young professionals to navigate the workplace, while equipping them to be engaged, resilient leaders who can shape the future of our industry and our country.”
Giselle Thompson, Deputy Managing Director, Proman Trinidad added, “At a time when there is so much focus on the challenges for young people – including violence and bullying – it’s inspiring to see these students seeking out a different path, actively learning and eager to grow and make a positive impact.”
Through a combination of technical exposure and values-based learning, Proman’s internship programme continues to build a bridge between academia and industry—supporting skills development and character formation.
